How My Neurodivergent Mind Shapes Spectra Events

When people ask what makes Spectra Events different, I always come back to this – the heart behind it. I don’t just plan weddings and events, I pour my whole self into making sure they feel completely you. Every detail matters, every guest matters, and every moment has the potential to become one of those memories you’ll carry for a lifetime.
That mindset isn’t something I switch on for work. It’s who I am, and it’s rooted in how my brain works as a neurodivergent person. I’m both autistic and have ADHD, and for a long time I masked that part of myself because I didn’t want to be misunderstood. But the truth is, my neurodivergence is exactly why I’m able to do what I do – and why so many of my couples and clients tell me they feel supported, understood and at ease.
So I wanted to share a little more about how it shapes the way I approach Spectra Events as a Midlands wedding planner and event designer.
Creativity That Builds the Box – Not Just Thinks Outside It
I’ve never been someone who’s satisfied with “that’s just how it’s done”. My brain doesn’t just think outside the box – it questions who built the box in the first place, and then figures out how to build one that’s right for you.
This is why I love what I do as a Midlands event planner and décor specialist. I see possibilities where others might see limits. That means I’m always thinking about how to create personalised, bespoke elements that match your vision without you having to spend unnecessarily.
Instead of buying something off the shelf because it’s the only option, I look for ways to design something unique and tailored – often in a way that’s more cost-effective and sustainable. It’s never about quick fixes or “one size fits all” solutions. It’s about building your event from the ground up, so it feels truly yours.
Precision and Fairness in Every Detail
One of the things that comes with being autistic is that clarity, fairness and communication really matter to me. And that’s a good thing for my couples and clients.
When you work with me, you’ll always know where you stand. I’m open and honest because I value your trust too much to be any other way. If I say I’ll deliver something, I do it. If I notice something might cause an issue, I’ll flag it early and find a solution.
That need for clarity also shapes how I plan. I create systems and timelines that feel seamless – not just for me, but for everyone involved. It means suppliers know what’s expected of them, the flow of the day is smooth, and you’re able to actually enjoy your wedding or event instead of worrying about what’s happening behind the scenes.
A Safe Space – Always
Spectra Events is a proud supporter of the Safe Space Alliance, a global LGBTQIA+ organisation focused on helping people identify, navigate and create safe spaces for their communities. That means we are committed to ensuring everyone who works with us feels welcome, respected and safe – no exceptions.
But beyond that, we are also a natural safe space for individuals and couples with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). My background before Spectra Events was in education, where I worked as a SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) supporting children and families with a wide range of complex needs.
In that role, I worked closely with individuals with Down syndrome, Williams syndrome, genetic conditions, physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, visual impairment and D/deaf children. I was also trachy trained, providing specialist medical care where needed.
At one time, I was responsible for teaching 22 children across the full primary age range, each at different stages of the curriculum and development, simultaneously. To say I can manage a lot at one time is an understatement. That experience honed not only my skills, expertise and knowledge base, but also my ability to stay calm and adapt in the moment – a skill that translates directly into event planning and delivery.
These experiences gave me a level of awareness, adaptability and empathy that’s now woven into every wedding and event we design. Whether it’s considering accessibility from the start of the planning process, making quiet spaces available, adapting lighting and sound, or simply ensuring communication is clear and inclusive, I take this responsibility seriously. My aim is for every person attending your event – no matter their background or needs – to feel comfortable and cared for.
Empathy That Shapes Everything I Do
Because I feel things deeply, I naturally tune in to how others are feeling too. It’s not just about big-picture logistics – it’s about creating experiences where people feel comfortable, valued and included.
I want you to feel that sense of ease as much as your guests do. That feeling that someone is holding space for you and paying attention to the details you might not even have realised you needed.
Why This Matters for YOU
You’re not just booking a wedding planner or event décor specialist – you’re working with someone who sees every angle and genuinely cares about your experience.
My neurodivergence and my background in SEND education don’t just shape the way I work – they’re the reason I’m able to plan and design weddings and events with such depth and detail. They’re why I can:
Bring creative solutions that reflect you and your story
Build timelines and plans that make everything flow effortlessly
Design events that are inclusive and welcoming for everyone
Hold space for you, so you can focus on enjoying every moment
